Named after Ryan’s mother, the Debra Lou Foundation was founded in 2012 when Ryan did his first climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. After his summit, Ryan stumbled upon a small school system at the base of Kilimanjaro where he met with local teachers and quickly learned they were in desperate need of school supplies. In efforts to keep the schools from closing Ryan contacted his mother, a retired school teacher, who orchestrated the gathering of supplies and shipment. Today the Debra Lou Foundation provides schools supplies and assists in the construction of schools both domestically and internationally.
